Tarago
Safety
Toyota is committed to vehicle safety. That's why we established the Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) passive safety assessment programme. First we find the toughest safety standards in the world, then we try to exceed them. In the Tarago, you'll often find yourself carting the most precious cargo in the world - so safety is always a priority.
Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) body
Built around a unique Safe-T-Cell, the Toyota Tarago gives your whole team the protection they deserve. Safe-T-Cell is an energy absorbing structure, designed to help reduce impact upon the cabin, providing occupants with increased protection. Designed, tested, and manufactured to meet Toyota's stringent Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) guidelines, Tarago incorporates Head Impact Protection (HIP), side door anti-intrusion beams, reinforced beams in the floor and roof, front crumple zones and collapsible steering column. It even includes a host of frontal pedestrian protection features for reducing impact in the event of a collision with a pedestrian.
Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i)
Transporting seven to eight passengers is a heavy responsibility: literally. That's why Toyota's Active Braking with Intelligence (AB-i) is standard on all models. AB-i comes complete with Anti-skid Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). AB-i helps you stop quickly and safely, under any conditions.
- Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) - ABS prevents your wheels from locking up, so you're less likely to skid. Wheel lockup is a major cause of accidents because steering control is lost as soon as the front wheels lose their grip.
- Brake Assist (BA) - BA helps you apply optimum braking force during an emergency.
- Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) - EBD dynamically distributes braking force based on vehicle load.
Vehicle Control Management System (VCMS)
Vehicle Control Management System (VCMS) is the next generation of regular Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and is another testament to the impressive safety standards available on the Tarago.
VCMS is standard on Tarago V6 and GLX 4 cylinder and as an option as part of the Enhanced Safety Pack (ESP) on the GLi 4 cylinder acts like a central nervous system and uses a Control Area Network (CAN) to serve as a link between the various traction enhancing technologies. So it ensures systems work together in emergency situations for enhanced control. The VCMS links the ABS, EPS, VSC and TRC plus a network of sensors. So it controls the throttle and thus the engine output. Brakes are applied to individual wheels and even steering torque is controlled. VSC works dramatically in adverse conditions, while it makes cornering on gravel roads, wet conditions and other slippery bends considerably safer.
The safety and re-assurance of 7 airbags*
Protecting your occupants is a priority at Toyota. Consequently, all Tarago models come standard with a minimum of driver and front passenger SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) airbags. And with the 4cyl GLX and all V6 grades, you also get driver & passenger side airbags, full-length three row side curtain shield airbags and a driver's knee airbag - all as standard. (Additional airbags are available as part of the optional Enhanced Safety Pack on the 4cyl GLi.)

Pre-Crash Seatbelt system (PSB)
With the Toyota Tarago, seatbelt safety gets even better. Tarago V6 and GLX 4cylinder (and the GLi 4 cylinder with the Enhanced Safety Pack option) boast Toyota's Pre-Crash Seatbelt system. Using information from the electronic Brake Assist system and via VSC, electric motors pre-tension the front seats in anticipation of a collision if a sudden quick, hard push on the brake pedal is detected.
